In Dulci Jubilo

Friday December 6th, 2019, 7:30 p.m.
St. George’s Cathedral, Kingston

Feel the pull of the Advent morning star and rejoice in an exultant tour of Germany’s rich Christmas legacy. Melos is joined by guest trombonists, Joseph Dashney, Lorenzo Sivilotti and Eric Liu on renaissance sackbuts; with Andrea Gerhardt, Hildegard specialist. Together with Melos, these dynamic forces will perform the gamut: from soothing Mediaeval chants of German abbeys, Mediaeval carols, Baroque chorales, motets of Schutz and Handl, to the rich polychoral works of Praetorius. To crown the program we present works based on ancient chants and carols, excerpted from J.S. Bach’s Cantatas #140, Wachet auf, and #121, Christum wir sollen loben schon; as well as JL Bach’s Christmas motet, Uns ist ein Kind geboren.
